I may or may not be writing a new novel.

Emphasis on “may”…the first one.

I’m just going to get right to the point: I’ve got writing issues.  I can’t go three months without something new on my plate, or I get stir-crazy and frantic, like my world is closing in.  It’s sad, people.  Pity me.

Thanksgiving night (after eating far too much food, playing thanksgiving-themed games, singing in a talent show, tying for first place in said talent show, and then eating far too much dessert)I had a dream.  It was so epic I think it might have tied with Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream.  I’m not even joking.

It was set in the 1890s, in the alleys of London, carrying the feel of Newsies and themes from The Thief Lord, and woven with romance, jealousy, oppressive family ties, secret background-stories, betrayal, and adventure.  My favorite “character” in the dream was a carbon-copy of Alistair Brammer as he appears in the new Les Misérables film, and was consequently named Alistair.  (I’m more than happy to have him feature in my book since he’s rather a favorite of mine in the musical theater world.  If you don’t know his work, look him up!)

I definitely overslept, though it didn’t matter since I always do at Gramma’s house.  People kept trying to wake me up and I’d shove them away, because even mid-dream I could tell this would make a fantastic novel.  My consequence was that most of the Thanksgiving dinner left-overs had been eaten by the time I finally got up at almost noon.

But I think it was worth it.

I’d love to promise that I’ll be unveiling this new book soon (since the dream covered all the major plot points, and since I wrote it all down the second I woke up, I only have to write it now! cha-ching.) but I’m afraid I have to finish at least Esmeralda before I can conscience that.  If it sounds at all interesting to you, though, never fear! It will appear soon enough.

Anyway, I’ll leave you with a temporary cover image, since even before I post it I must have a cover (oh yes, I’m calling it simply “Dream” for now, since that’s what it was, even though that has nothing to do with the story).

(And I think that “Ava” looks something along the lines of the girl in this picture, though I’m not positive yet.)

  • Okay, so I have to say we think the same way. A lot. Because when I have a new story idea, that’s all my life is for the next few days. Brainstorming. And shoving people away so I can keep brainstorming.
I’m so excited for this! 😀

  • aww thanks!! I’m excited too! haha
And yes. Lots of shoving people away, for sure. 😀 THE WORLD DOESN’T UNDERSTAND I NEED OT WRITE AND I NEED QUIET.

Okay, first off. LYDIA. YOU DIDN’T TELL ME YOU WROTE A NEW BLOG POST!!!!!!!!!
    /timeofrageisoverbecauseiamreallyactuallyinawe

Sooo. My real reaction: Wow. All writers definitely think alike! Before, I used to have such magical dreams – unfortunately, I haven’t been dreaming much as of late, though! Oh, well. They were still wonderful, and just like you, I made notes of them 🙂 Maybe I’ll get to writing an actual story off of them someday, but I never seem to be able to word it right.

I can’t wait to read your story! 😀 Please post it soon! Ohhh and another thing is I noticed you haven’t been active on Nanowrimo! LYDIAAAAA!!!! (again.) Up that word count! Don’t stay at 0 for the entire month!!!

Basically, I’m waiting for you to take action 😛

  • I know, I’m sorry!! I was going to tell you as soon as I got up today, but I really had to get to bed last night because it was super late. I know that’s not much of an excuse, but… sorry. 😀 Also, sorry I haven’t been doing NaNo! I haven’t been home for two days straight this whole month (that’s not even an exaggeration) and since I’ve had no time to write in Finding You, I couldn’t count the words! :/

Yes!! I love to hear that you’ve had novel-worthy dreams as well! I read that Robert Louis Stevenson dreamt about Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, woke up and wrote it all in one go. I wish I was that impressive. But I’m with you- it has never translated very well. I’m determined that this time it will be different!

Sounds exiting! I can’t wait to read it. I NEED to have a dream that I can make a novel out of. -.- Or, steal some of my sister’s dreams… (She tells me everything…) Anyways, sounds great! Hope you continue! 😀 (What editing site do you use? I love your covers.)

  • Thanks!! Haha yeah, stealing ideas from obliging sisters is always lovely. 🙂
I use Picmonkey– it’s free and really awesome. 😀 Thanks!

That sounds amazing already and I’m love the whole idea of it! Man, I already know I’m going to be in love with it! I can’t wait to get to know your new characters. 😀

And that’s so cool that it came from a dream. I sometimes get short stories from my dreams. Though I always get some strong emotion from my dreams like dread of something bad going or feeling pressured to fin something important. Then when I try to write it, it just falls flat…

Anyway, I’m so excited for this story to come. PLEASE let me know when you put it up on figment! 🙂

Oopes, I don’t know how to go back and edit my mistakes. My mom had to come, so I wanted to finish my comment quickly. Thus my mistakes… :/

Cool, thanks! Oh, and by the way.. (Sorry, I comment way too much. :P) Where do you get your pictures for your covers?)

  • No worries, Reilly! 😀 I just find the pictures on pinterest or google images or vizualize. It’s all random, and then I just keep a folder on my computer for cover photos/characters.

    Phoenix-
Thanks!! It’s all brewing in my mind, pushing me to write it!! I can’t wait. I just hope it actually comes out as good as it was as a dream. I’m just trying to decide if I want to reboot Proxy first, or go with this one. :/

I wish I got short story ideas from dreams!! I can never really seem to write short stories- I’ve only finished three, and two of those were at the Holocaust museum different times because I was overwhelmed emotionally and processed better by writing about it.

I’m worried the same thing will happen- that this will fall flat once I actually start to write it. We’ll see. And yes, I’ll let you know! Thanks for caring! 🙂
